Gay Stroller Destroyed After Breaking Leg

In the Okehu Hack Hurdles, second race on the Wanganui Jockey Club's opening day on Saturday, three horses fell at the second hurdle, at the top of the straight. They were Haughty Boy, who was then in the lead, Gay Stroller and Bramerton. Gay Stroller broke a leg and had to be destroyed. Gay Stroller was an aged brown horse by Foxbridge from Gaystep, by Gay Lothario, and he was a haltbrother to Gay Fellow, winner of the Jumpers’ Fiat, Grand National Hurdles and the Sydenham Hurdles at the recent C.J.C. meeting at Riccarton. Gay Stroller won the Manawatu Cup in 1947 for Mr T. Coltman, of Wellington, for whom he was trained at Awapuni by E. Temperton. Another casualty in the hurdle race on Saturday was Master Moti, Who broke down badly.
