Auckland Council Lets £l00,000 Contract To Wanganui Firm
Eight miles of 27-inch concretelined steel pipes are to be laid in Auckland by a Wanganui firffi.. The Auckland City Council has accepted a tender from the Steel Pipe and Engineering Company, Ltd., for its Crossey’s Creek water supply scheme. The tender, which con-.ested quotes from a New Zealand and three overseas firms ranging up to £220,559, was for £99,966 15*; 6d. Now under construction by the same firm at its Onehunga works are 30-inch pipes for the first seven miles of the line. This is expected to be completed early in the New Year and the new contract will follow on, the complete project to be finished by September, 1951. All the large mains bought by the Auckland City Council have been products of the firm, the association Jetwecn the two parlies having been maintained over the last 50 years. When the present p'pes have been laid the company will have supplied Auckland with pipes sufficient to lay a main from Wanganui through Palmerston North to the Manawatu Gorge—a total of 293,040 feet.
