WAIRARAPA BEATEN BY POVERTY BAY
MASTERTON, Last Night (PA).— The Poverty Bay touring team beat the Wairarapa senior Rugby representatives at Masterton on Saturday by 11 points to eight. The winners deserved their victory and had ths edges on their opponents. B. Fitzpatrick and A. Tureia, the five-eighths, were outstanding for Poverty Bay and the forwards, G. Elliot, B. White and K Bullivant shone The mainstay in the Wairarapa team was B. Couch, whe played a grand all-round game. The weather was fine, although the ground was on the heavy side after rain. There was a good attendance. At half time the scores stood at eight-all. Wairarapa opened the scoring when P. Desmond scored after good play by I. Dale. A. Mnhunuka converted. Mahupuka kicked a penalty to .give Wn’rarapa a good lead, but this was reduced when the Poverty Bay winger, R. Preston, scored. Shortly before half time Fitzpatrick jinked his wa” over after receiving from Tureia, and the latter converted. Play was ercitmg in the second soell, both sides playing open Rugby. Poverty Bav scored the winning points when R. Stephenson capitalised on a mistake by Wairarapa and was presented with an easv try.
