N.Z. BLIND INSTITUTE BAND

The N.Z. Blind Institute Bana entertained a large audience at the Town Hall, Taihape, on Wednesday evening with a delightful concer; programme which included vocal and instrumental solos, hill billy songs and other items. Each number was well received by an appreciative audience. The Taihape Band played outside the Town Hall prior to the start of the programme. During an interval, the Mayor, Mr. E. Loader, welcomed the visiting band and told the audience how the visit to Taihape had originated. A local committee had attended to the details of oorganisation and had arranged for the billeting of the visiting bandsmen in private homes. He thanked the committee for their assistance and extended an official welcome to the Blind Institute Band. Mr. Pilgrim,! manager of the band, said: "We are very gratified with the reception accorded our programme and wish to thank the Mayor for arranging the details of our visit to Taihape. W e thank the people of Taihape for their kind hospitality’ and pH others who have helped to make the visit of the band to Taihape so enjoyable.’’ Mr. Pilgrim introduced each member of the band to the audience. ASPECTS OF WOOL TRADE.

"Aspects of the Wool Trade” formed the subject of an address given to local farmers on Wednesday afternoon by Mr. W. Horrobin, vice-chairman of the N2. Wool Boad. The speaker made special referennce to the veterinary side of the question and explained that the Wool Board had granted bursaries to enable qualified mon to study the causes of diseases in sheep. Men’ had gone to London for this purpose. Another man was going to England shortly to study infality in sheep. Mr. A.’J. Mickleson. president of the Taihape branch of Federated Farmers, occupied the chair and introduced, the speaker. Mr. Horrobin was accorded a hearty vote of thanks at the instigation of Mr. C. A. Stewart. RAILWAY RUGBY. The match between the single and married railwaymen, played last Sunday, resulted in a win for the bachelors by 9 points (three tries) to 6 (two tries). For the married men Parkes and B. James scored a try each, while Hammond, Pearce and Maxwell were the try-getters for the single men. CASCADE CUP FINAL. The final of the Cascade Cun competition between Ohakune and Wanganui railway will be played at Taihape on Sunday, September 3. These two teams fought out the final last year.
