HOUSE OF COMMONS TO DEBATE KOREA
LONDON, July 20. —It now seems virtually certain that there will be a full-dress debate on defence in the House of Commons on Wednesday next week, and that both Mr. Attlee and Mr. Churchill will make important contributions to it.
The Opposition’s request for a secret session of the House to discuss defence has not been specifically rejected by the Government, but it is not expected that Mr. Attlee will agree to it. The Prime Minister was informed on Tuesday of discussions which took place earlier in the week in Moscow between the British Ambassador, Sir David Kelly, and Mr. Gromyko, Soviet Deputy Foreign. Minister. It is likely that in due course a Government statement will be made about these conversations, but in the meantime Mr. Attlee is reported to take the view that the least said about them publicly the better.
It is assumed in London that Mr. Gromyko conveyed to Sir David Kelly substantially the same reply as that already sent by Stalin to Mr. Nehru.
