EMPIRE UNIVERSITY LEADERS TO HOLD CONFERENCE IN N.Z.
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— One of the most distinguished groups of university leaders ever to visit New Zealand will arrive in Auckland at the end of next week. From Auckland the party will go to Walrakel, where it will meet as an erecutive of the Association of Universities of the British Commonwealth.
The party of 16 includes delegates from Britain, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Pakistan and the Colonies. New Zealand will be supplying one delegate and the cha.rman of the association will be Professor I. A. Gordon, Vice-Chancellor of the University of New Zealand. Dr. J. F. Foster, an Australian who is secretary of the association, has already arrived in New Zealand. He said in Auckland today that all the universities in the British Commonwealth had a lot in common. They were institutions of a similar kind with similar backgrounds that were facing similar problems. Dr. Foster said the greatest benefit of the annual conferences was the establishment of personal contacts. The association believed that the universities of the Commonwealth had much to gain by keeping in fairly close personal touch with each othe:-.
