Recent Wintry Conditions Affect Market At Wanganui Sale
Recent wintry conditions affected the general market at the Wanganui weekly stock sale yesterday, report the auctioneers, Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd. There was a good average yarding in all sections. Fat stock were firm at late rates, though the finish and quality was not up to recent yardings. All store stock were hard of sale and passings were frequent, more particularly in the dairy section, where only outstanding good quality springing heifers attracted any attention. Values were: Sheen; Fat wethers, to 64s 3d; fat
hoggets, 40s 1o 40s 6d; fat ewes, to 39s 6d; wether hoggets, to 42s 9d; ewe hoggets to 49s 6d. Cattle: Light Jersey steers, to £l4, boner cows, £6 5s to £9 10s; light Jersey heifers, to £10; 20m n s. Jerseycross empty heifers, to £10; small yearling Jersey heifers, £6 7s to £6 13s; forward top quality springing heifers, to £l's 15s; calved, to £l3; cows in milk, £6 to £10; good dairy cows, springing, to £l5. Pigs: Baconers, £5 10s to £6; late farrowing sows, £3/10/- to £5 10s; stores, £3 to £3 10s; weaners, a keen sale in short supply, 55s to 61s.
