BLENHEIM, Yesterday (PA).— Drastic changes to “pep up’’ Rugby football are a/ivocated by the Marl- , borough Rugby Union, in response to the New Zealand Union’s circularised invitation for amendments to the laws of the game. They include teams of 14, a reversion of the two-three-two scrum, a veto on winging forwards and a relaxation of the knock-on rule. The Marlborough remits are: — (1) That it be permissable to replace an injured player during the game, provided the referee is satis- ! lied that the injured player is not tit 1 to continue. I (2) That teams shall consist of 14 players each, with a reversion to the two-three-two scrum formation, and a proviso that no forward shall break off frdm the scrummage until the ball is hooked clear of the scrum. (3) That where a player accidentally knocks the ball on and then regains possession before it touches the ground, play shall be allowed to continue. (4) That after a try is scored, the scoring team’s kickei’ be allowed to place tthe ball on the ground for a kick at goal, the defending players being allowed to charge only when the kicker has commenced to run up to kick the ball.
