FIVE FOOTBALL TEAM MEMBERS INJURED WHEN TRUCK CAPSIZED
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— Five members of the Maraetai senior football team were injured and 14 others had remarkable escapes from serious injury when a truck carrying them from Putaruru to Mangakino became out of control and capsized on a road at 7 p.m. yesterday. The injured were: Mr. L. Stowers, aged 32, labourer, fractured pelvis. Mr. K. Hahawira, aged 40, contractor, fractured ribs and concusison. Mr. R. B. Hope, aged 27, carpenter, concussion. Mr. R. H. Gamble, aged 26, quarryman, concussion. Mr A. Hawes, aged 20, school teacher, concussion. All the men live at Mangakino. After being treated at the Mangakino Hospital they were admitted to the Waikato Hospital. Tfteir condition is not serious. The truck was returning to Mangakino with the team which, had taken part in a weekly competition at Putaruru. On the long steep grade of Kopokaraui Hill, about four miles from Mangakino, the truck became out of control and capsized on the road, throwing the canvas canopy 'over a 20ft. bank. Most of the other members of the team riding in the ! back of the truck suffered bruises and cuts, and after treatment in the Mangakino Hospital, returned to their homes.
