ROWING CLUB PAYS SINCERE TRIBUTE TO MR. PERCY EVANS
“It is with deep affection that we honour this toast tonight,” said Mr. lan Robson, in proposing the toast of “Our Patron, Mr. Percy Evans,” at the jubilee dinner of the Wanganui Rowing Club, held on Saturday night to commemorate the 75th year of the club’s establishment. For upwards of more than 40 years Mr. Evans has exercised a great and
lasting influence on the club and its personnel, said the speaker. “Right down the years he has almost. been continuously in office in one capacity or another, and in our numbers tonight we say ‘thank you Mr. Evans for all that you have done for the club.’” The toast was honoured with musical honours. Replying, Mr. Evans thanked Mr. Robson for his remarks and said he had enjoyed every minute of his long association with the Wanganui Rowing Club. He had made many lifelong friends. It was most encouraging to see the vitality in the club today after the war years. He said the club had a splendid and energetic executive in command at the present, lime, and he wished the club continued success.
