SILK AND KITTO TO MEET IN SEMI-FINALS OF N.I. GOLF TITLE

WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— The finals of the North Island amateur golf championships will be played tomorrow on the Paraparaumu course. Semi-finalists are J. Burns (Manawattt) who plays D. H. Graham (Feilding) and B. M. Silk (Wanganui) who plays A. R. Kitto, (Casttecliff). The 78 players found the course a searching test, on Saturday and today, with half a gale blowing, ball control was difficult. The qualifying rounds were headed by G. P. Roberts (Hutt) and J. P. Hornabroox ‘Paraparaumu) with aggregates of 145. Roberts owed his position to an amazing home journey in the morning of 31. Out in an indifferent 38, he drove powerfully and accurately, pitched perfectly and sank putts from all parts of the greens to do the last nine holes in six under bogey. Hornabrook showed a trace of the form which has made him twice national amateur champion by doing rounds of 72 and 73 to be with Roberts for the first place. In second position came L. B. Quinn (Manor Park champion) who followed up a brilliant 71 in the morning with a 75 in the afternoon to be a stroke behind the leaders. To show how keen competition was three players with plus 1 handicaps, W. G. Horne (Wellington), K. S. Glendenning (Manawatu) and T. P. Jones (Taumarunui) failed to qualify. lhe following qualified for the championship:— G. P. Roberts (Hutt) 69-76-145. J. P. Hornabrook (Paraparaumu) 72-73-145. L_ B. Quinn (Manor Park) 71-75-146 M. J.
