MARTON A. AND P. ASSN. SHOWED A NET LOSS OF £69 LAST YEAR

The Marton A. and P. Association showed a loss during the past year of £69, compared with a loss of £23 the previous year. This is disclosed in the annual report of the association to be presented at the annual meeting this, month.

The annual show expenses amounted to £319, a decrease of £l3 on the previous year, while prize money totalled £422, compared with £436 Members' subscriptions, including arrears, totalled £334, a drop of £l3 on the previous year. Smaller entries for the 1950 show were reflected in the entry fees, these amounting to £248 as against £270 in 1949. Gate takings were also down, £9B being the takings this year compared with £ll7 the previous year. The sale of gift lambs and sheep last year was worth £l5l to the association, but this year the sales dropped to £ll4. The association has assets to the value of £2435.

The president, Mr. E. H. Simpson, in his report, comments on the very disappointing support given by the public on the day of the show, and states that a sub-committee will shortly bring down a report for consideration by the general committee. Both the numbers and quality of the stock exhibited at the show were well up to the standard of previous years, states the report, and there was favourable comment from the judges, who were also complimentary in their remarks on the way in which the class stewards carried out their duties. The report refers to the death of lour members —Messrs. R. L. Gibson, I. Andrew, B. Illston, and H. Y. Cameron—and one committeeman, Mr. J. Henderson, and extends sympathy to the relatives. The following officers retire and are eligible for re-election: President. Mr, E. H. Simpson; vice-presidents, Messrs N. L. Shelton, P. W. Briant, A. C. Vile, and A. B. Marshall; treasurer, Mr. F. R. H. Brice; committee, Messrs A. S. Coleman, J. W. Griffin, R. H. Haise, H. C. Little, B. R. Simpson, J. D. Simpson, R. K. Simpson, and A. L. Vile. ARCHBISHOP P. McKEEFRY TO VISIT MARTON TOMORROW. His Grace Archbishop P. McKeefry will visit Marton tomorrow to bless the new extensions to St. Francis’ Church. The ceremony will commence at 2.45 p.m. and at 3 p.m. Pontifical Benediction will take place at which His Grace and four visiting priests will be present. Following this, afternoon tea will be served in the school grounds, where a large number of parishioners from the Rangitikei parishes of Marton, Bulls, Whangaehu, Turakina, Rata, and Hunterville, will gather to join in the addresses of welcome to His Grace the Archbishop. AROUND THE MARTON GOLF COURSE. (By “Bogey.") Over last week-end some very good play was seen on the Marton Golt imgs and some good scores were returned. The competition, a mixed Canadian foursome, was won by Mr. and Mrs. K. Joblin. Two men, T. Moore and M. Stuubbs, returned the very excellent card of eight up. Some of the first matches for the Moore and M. Stubbs, returned the the week-end when some very good scores were again returned, the best being: Miss S. Galpin and M. C. Twist 5 up, Mrs. R. Crawford and F. A. Ful-lerton-Smith 4 up, Miss M. Rubery and H. Coleman 3 up, Miss E. Galpin and R. Crawford 2 up, Miss P. Galpin and A. R. Charlton 2 up, Mrs. G. V. Joblin and A. Duncan 1 up. The match for today will be the second round of the Tutaenui handicap which has to be completed by Monday, June 19. For players not competing in the above match, a draw will be made at the club-house, when a medal round will be the competition for the day.

A picnic open day is being held on Monday (King's Day) when members and players from other clubs, will, for a small entry fee, be able to compete for some good prizes and enjoy a good day’s sport. The matches arranged are: Ladies and men’s stableford rounds in the morning, commencing at 9 a.m., and a mixed Canadian foursome medal in the afternoon. There will also be a long driving competition for both men and ladies.

Members are asked to note the following alterations to their programmes:—First round for championships and Shannon Cup, June 10; second round, June 24; third round, July 8; fourth round, August 5. CONDITIONS IN ENGLAND DESCRIBED TO W.D.F.F. A very interesting address on the conditions in England was given by the guest speaker, Mrs. D. Simpson, at the May meeting of the Bonny Glen-South Makirikiri branch of the W.D.F.F. The speaker stressed the necessity of continuing to send food parcels to England, especially parcels containing meat'and fat. At the conclusion of her address, Mrs. Simpson was thanked by the president, Mrs. A. Stantiall. The secretary, Mrs. A. Cameron, read appreciative letters from club members in England for parcels of fat, food, etc. Also received were several descriptive guide books illustrating and describing Oak Lam and Rutland where parcels from the branch had been sent. There was a good attendance ot members at the meeting which was held at. the home of Mrs. Les. Gudopp. Competitions were won as follows: Best chrysanthemum, Mrs. J. Glasgow 1; Mrs. A. Brightwell, 2; Mrs. C. Toogood, 3. Competitions for next month are: Shoulder spray and shortbread. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. A. Stantiall on Wednesday, June 14. BULLS JUNIORS WITHDRAW FROM RUGBY COMPETITION. Because of difficulties experienced in fielding both senior and junior teams each week, the Bulls Football Club has withdrawn its junior team from the Rangitikei competition. Bulls were scheduled to play Athletic at Bulls this afternoon, but Athletic will now win by default. Teams drawn to play Bulls in the remaining two matches of the second round Hunterville and Rata-—will likewise win hv default.
