Appointment Of New Representatives
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).—The Minister of Labour, Mr. Sullivan, stated today that, acting on the recommendation of the Government, the Governor-General had appointed Messrs. A. C. Dellaway and J. Flood to fill the union vacancies on the Waterfront Industry Authority, and that Mr. G. G. McFarlane had been appointed on the nomination of the New Zealand Port Employers’ Association to replace Mr. K. A. Belford, who had resigned through pressure of other work on his appointment as Industrial and Claims Superintendent of the Union Steamship Co., Ltd.
The union had recently eon- , ducted a secret ballot of its members and Messrs. Dellaway and Flood yere the successful eandi-| dates.
The Waterfront Industry Authority is now fully constituted, with Judge Dalglish as chairman, and Messrs. T. S. Marchington and G. G. McFarlane as employers’ representatives, and Dellaway and Flood union representatives, and will now be able to meet without delay to deal with outstanding disputes. The Government, at the request of the union and with the concurrence of the employers, has agreed to revoke the Waterfront Industry Emergency Regulations, 1946, Amendment No. 1. In revoking this regulation it had been made clear that the Government will take whatever action it may consider necessary to ensure that legal decisions of the Waterfront Industry Commission and of the Waterfront Industry Authority are faithfully observed by both parties.
