Injured at Works Mr Te Witika, of Ratana pa, received cuts to the right hand while working at the Imlay Freezing Works this morning. He was taken to the Wanganui Hospital by ambulance and treated as an out-patient. Mild Taihape Weather May, 1950, was the mildest ever recorded in Taihape, the previous mildest having been in 1916 and 1928. The rainfall last month was .94in. Lower rainfalls in May were .57in. in 1938 and .80in. in 1939. Display Of Lightning. Commencing about 6 p.m last night, and continuing for halt an hour, a brilliant display of lightning was visible from Wanganui over the ranges due east of the city. The intervals between the flashes consisted of a few seconds only. The display was spectacular wniie it lasted. Company Registered. Registration of Byers (J.) and Sons Ltd., 14 Alma Road, Wanganui, as a private company is contained in the latest issue of the Mercantile Gazette. Capital of the company is £2OOO in £1 shares and subscribers are F. V. Featonby (Patea) 1200 and J. E. Byers 800. Objects of the company are described as general carriers ana incidental.
Rowing Club Jubilee Members of the Wanganui Rowing Club will celebrate the 75th anniversary of their club tonight, when a jubilee dinner will be held in the Savage Club Hall. Founded in 1875, the Wanganui Rowing Club is the oldest in the city. During the evening the club’s Roll of Honour will be unveiled and trophies won during the past season will be presented. Unsettled Weather. The weather in Wanganui yesterday was unsettled with rain overnight and further showers in the morning. However, according to reports kept at the New Zealand Friends School, St. John’s Hill, the total fall for the 24 hours ended at 7 p.m. was only .16in. Cooler weather, which was in contrast to the cool days earlier in the week, was experienced yesterday, the maximum temperature being 63 degress and the minimum 48 degrees. Today's forecast is for overcast conditions with occasional rain. War Service Figures. The first full tabulation of New Zealand’s overseas war service statistics, compiled from the 1945 census, has been released by the Census and Statistics Department. As a result of the census three volumes, on population, on the Island territories, and on ages and martial status, have been issued, together with two appendices, one on poultry and the other on war service. The latest release states that others have yet to be issued. Rugby Selectors Two members of the All Black selection committee, and not one as previously thought, are likely to be watching the Wanganui-Taranaki representative Rugby match at Wanganui on Monday. Mr T. C. Morrison, chairman of the selection committee, has already stated that he will be present, and it has now been reported that Mr M. M. N. Corner hopes to fly to Wanganui to see the game and to return to Hamilton for the Auckland-Hamil-ton match the same afternoon. Mr J. Finlay, of Feilding, a North Island selector, will be present.
