Tributes To Retiring President Of Wanganui A. And P. Association
Tributes to the retiring president of the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Mr. C. J. Masters, were paid at the annual meeting last night. The new president is Mr. N. Neilson, who was elected by ballot, only two nominations being received. Mr. A. R. Donaldson said that Mr. Masters was president during a difficult period when the association was being revived after the war, and undertaking a programme of improvements at the showgrounds. Each year, however, the annual Wanganui show had been even more successful and much of the credit for what had been accomplished was due to Mr. Masters. Other speakers also paid tributes to Mr. Masters and congratulated Mr. Neilson on his election. The treasurer, Mr. L. A, Mackintosh, said that, the past year had been very successlul and the gate takings had exceeded those of the previous year by £lOO. The association hal also paid out more in prize money. Other officers elected were: Vicepresidents, Messrs. W. Bason and L. K. Monk; treasurer, Mr. L. A. Mackintosh; general committee, Messrs. W. Bason, 3. Hughes, V. Horrocks, N. M. Izard, P. J. Dempsey, W. E. Robbie, A. C. Bayler, N. Nethercliff, W. K. Burtt, J. W. T. Collins, P. Herbert, N. T. Symes, C. Hodder, Lindsay Bull, C. N. Flyger, M. W. Hill, J. H. Littlejohn, J. M. J. Hartwell, J. Hunter, H. Zeisler, E. M. Hardy, S. L. Orr, C. Leary, K. R. Gibbons, L. McLeod, O. B. Hawken, E. T. Cranstone, C. Leigh, M. K. Ross, and R. Chatteris.
