W.D.F.F.

Meeting Of Ohingaiti Branch

A meeting of the Ohingaiti branch of the W.D.F.F. was held in the Memorial Hall on May 24. Mrs. N. A. Mills presided. After reading the minutes remits for the Wellington Conference were discussed. Final arrangements were made for the W.D. ball to be held on the first Monday in June. Good entries were received for the flewer competitions, results were as follows:—Rose, Mrs. Philps 1, Mrs. Coleman 2, Mrs. Cooper 3. Premier flower, Mrs. Lowry 1, Mrs Coleman 2, Mrs Fulton 3. A vote of thanks was accorded Mesdames N. Miller and T. Stewart for their generosity in donating prizes for the flower competitions during the year. Afternoon tea was served, Mesdames J. McKnight, Misson, and Mills acting ps hostesses.

Waitotara Branch

There was a fair attendance at the May meeting of the Waitotara branch of the W.D.F.F. The president, Mrs. Gower-James reported on the recent provincial meeting in Wanganui and the inter-provincial in Palmerston North. These had been concerned largely with annual elections, details of the forthcoming Dominion conference and remits thereto. She mentioned the School for Officers to be held in Wanganui on June 9. Mrs. Gower James was complimented by members on her appointment as secretary to the Wanganui Provincial. The secretary proposed a vote of thanks to the vice-presidents of the branch, who had arranged its floral tribute for the local Anzac Day ceremony. It was decided to hold a special birthday meeting in July and extend hospitality to neighbouring branches. Members brought jam for donation to hospital patients, also parcels of fat for Britain. The day’s competitions resulted as follows: Pot of jam, Mrs. J. Parsons 1, Miss M. Verry 2, Mrs. K. Handley 3. Flowering shrub, Mrs. K. Handley. Berry, Mrs. R. Forsyth. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Bradley and Crawshaw. This was followed by an amusing menu competition arranged by the president and won by Mrs. J. Parsons. Competitions for next month will be: Novel floral decoration: Blooms, camelia and early bulbs. Cooking, queen cakes.
