AUCKLAND. Last Night (PA).~A substantial shipment of rice, the flrsr. to be made available to the general public for many years, will arrive at Auckland from Rangoon on June 10 in the Union Company’s cargo ship Wairata. Import licences have been granted to import rice from Burma to the same value of supplies in 1942. In recent years the cereal has been imported only for Chinese, Indians and public institutions. The retail price may be about 9d a lb, compared with first grade Australian rice at 5d a lb in 1942. The rice will be 25 per cent broken and graded about second quality. The Wairata. which will discharge at Auckland. Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, also has 3500 tons of tea for New Zealand in her cargo.
