Mr. And Mrs. Holland Given Civic Welcome In Hamilton Last Night

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).—A civic reception was given to the Prime Minister, Mr. Holland, and to Mrs. Holland, in the Theatre Royal, Hamilton, tonight. The Mayor, Mr. H. D. Caro, who presided over a large attendance, extended to Mr. and Mrs. Holland a sincere and cordial welcome on behalf of the citizens of Hamilton. The chairmen of the Waikato, Waipa, and Raglan County Councils also spoke. Mr. Holland was greeted with musical honours and prolonged applause when he rose to speak. Mr. Holland said he was glad to note from the speakers’ addresses that the Waikato was so wealthy a district. It occurred to him, as Minister of Finance, that it would be a fruitful field Io exploit for the benefit of the poorer parts of New Zealand (Laughter). Mr. Holland said New Zealand was a very fortunate country with none of the problems that worried Governments of other countries. There was only one problem, and that was to reduce the Dominion's expenditure to the level of its income. If New Zealand would produce more and spend less its only problem would disappear like a Waikato fog.
