SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. M. Burnet, Wanganui East, is visiting her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Colin Burnet, at Waipukurau. Mrs. A. McPhail, St. John's Hill, visited Wellington this week to attend a meeting of the S.P.C.A. executive. Mrs. R. V. Brown, St. John’s Hill, has returned after spending a Week at Paraparaumu. Mrs. Davis, Abbot Street, has as her guests"*for the school holidays Mrs. Malcolm Firn toff, Otorohonga and Mrs Alex Lawrence of Inglewood. Mrs. C. Broock, of Te Awamutu, with her two children, is visiting Wanganui as the guest of her mother, Mrs. Davis, Abbot Street. Miss Zita Rose, a former Wanganui teacher now in England, who was relieving at Westholme School, Arnside, Westmoreland, has been appointed to Betle-Vue School, once the home of Disraeli, in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. Parties F or Bride- To-Be. Miss Merle Richardson, of “Fair View,” Okoia district, whose wedding takes place on Saturday, has been the guest of honour at a number of prewedding parlies. Hostesses have been Mrs Eland, Mrs G. and A. N. McLead, 1 Mrs. Lindsay McLeod, Mrs. Beattie and Mrs. W T . Strachan, the N.Z. Founders’ Association, and the Okoia Women’s Division members. Bridge and Mah Jong Party. A most enjoyable afternoon was spent by the players who attended a bridge and mah jong party held by the Durie Hill branch of the National Party in the Party Rooms, Victoria Court on Tuesday. The convener, Mrs W. E. Robbie, was asisted by Mesdames C. E. Burrell, S. R. McCallum and W. E. Jagger. Sixteen tables were occupied in play. The competition was won by Mrs. Burrell. W.D.F.F, Retiring Officers Honoured. Presentations to three officers of the Wanganui branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, who retired from office last month, were made at the monthly meeting yesterday. In J resenting the gifts, the president, Mrs. R. V. Brown paid tributes to Mrs, T. J. Smith, who was president for two years; to Miss Pratt, secretary for five yeax’s (and had held similar office several years ago), and to Mrs. C. M. Duncan, who had been treasurer for five years. Mrs. Brown thanked them. Presentation To Wives of Retiring Police Officers. A pleasant little gathering took place on Tuesday afternoon when the wives of the Wanganui Police force entertained Mrs. F. Forsythe (wife of the retiring inspector) and Mrs. J. K. Robertson (wife of the retiring detec-tive-sergeant) at afternoon tea in Dustin’s Reception Room. On behalf of those present, Mrs. F. Culloty, wife of the senior sergeant, presented Mrs. Forsythe with a morning teaset, and Mrs.*Robertson with a bedside lamp. Songs were sung by Mrs. Needham, with Mrs. Best as accompanist.
