FORMER WANGANUI RUGBY PLAYER K. GUDSELL IN FORM
According to newspaper cuttings received by the Town Clerk of Wanganui. Mr. C. R. White, from his son, Campbell, who is now living in Australia. Keith Gudsall, Wanganui representative Rugby player and AH Black, who toured South Africa last year with the New Zealand team, is playing at the top of his form for Sydney University. Early this year Gudsell left New Zealand to further his studies at Sydney University. In a recent match against Randwick one report states that Gudsell was the star of the varsity attack, calling brilliantly for the ball and cutting through, supported by Solomon and Tooth. University won the match by 22 points to 12. In the opinion of Frank Tierney, I Rugby writer of the Sydney “Morning Herald," the Australian Rugby Union is to determine whether Gudsell is eligible to play for Australia. His status has been questioned because of a Home Countries’ conference decision that no player can represent two countries. Gudsell is a reserve for the South team to play North in a trial game for the New South Wales representative team. It is evident, however, that Gudsell may meet with the same sort of controversy which developed round the playing of I. Botting, former Otago and All Black three-quarter, in the England team. Botting was in England for studies and it was argued that he was not a resident in a full sense of [that country and it was undesirable for a player to wear the representative jerseys of two international sides. In Australia, the Board of Control is to decide what Gudsell’s status ■is in the light of a ruling given In England that a player cannot represent two unions.
