BULLS W.I. SOCIAL AFTERNOON MEMBER FAREWELLED

The May meeting of the Bulls Women’s Institute took the form of a social afternoon to farewell Mr. and Mrs Eyles who will shortly be taking up residence in the South Island. Mrs. Irwin presided and welcomed the 66 members present. The minutes were read and apologies received. Mrs R. Kemp kindly offered to take the travelling 2s and Mrs. Coleman volunteered to pack and dispatch the monthly 21b. parcel to the Bulls W.l. link in Northumberland, England. The delegates report was given by Mrs Huddleston, who also expressed the appreciation of the Marching Association to the band of institute ladies who so ably served lunches, teas, etc. to the public at the Marching Day function. The roll call "What I enjoyed most on the programme during 1949,” brought back memories of many happy meetings. The floral decorations in modern trend, which brightened the meeting hall were the work of Mrs. Robinson, who gave zfbrief talk on the arrangements displayed. The programme presented was thoroughly enjoyed. With Mrs Carson as accompaniste, Miss Walker sang two songs and Mrs. Tricker, playing her own accompaniment on her ukelele, also sang two songs, An amusi-ig sketch “Just Give Anything” was played by Mesdames Stewart, Hoskin, Irwin, Taylor and Sanson. Prior to the serving of afternoon tea, the oldest foundation members presented Mrs. Eyles with a bouquet of roses. The president expressed warm appreciation of Mr and Mrs Eyles long and faithful service, Mrs. Eyles as an active member for 13 years, twice as president with eight years in office, and Mr. Eyles as an excellent flower judge. A token of appreciation was handed to them, and Mrs. Eyles was presented with a long service badge. Mrs. Eyles suitably replied. Competition results were:—Antirrhinum, Mrs Westwood 1, Mrs. Ellery 2, Mrs. Edwards 3. Best blom, Miss Broughton 1, Mr**. Coleman 2, Mrs. R. Kemp 3. Vase cf chrysanthemums, Mrs. Clode 1 Mrs. Sanson 2, Mrs. Ross 3. A hanpy afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem
