SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. Dowset senr.. of Christchurch, is visiting Wanganui as the guest of Miss M. C. Galloway, Harrison Street. Mrs. J. Thomas,of Wollongong, New South Wales, is the guest of Mrs. W. F. Thomas, Niblett Street. Miss M. Wallace, Gonville, was among the hostesses who entertained Mrs. H. L. Williams at farewell parties this week. Mrs. E. A. Brown, of Utiku, will arrive in Wanganui tomorrow to spend the school holidays with her mother, Mrs. C. A. Piper. Heads Road. I Mrs. E. Tinker, of Invercargill, and her dauhter, Mrs. John Plunkett, Jnr., of Duncarn, Southland, who have been holidaying in Wanganui left for Auckland on Thursday. Mrs. R. H. Tizard (Aramoho) and !:?r daughter Ailsa, are visiting Palmerston North next week for the competitions. Ailsa is a compel itor in the dancing and vocal section. Mrs. R. C. Clemenston, Argyie Street, secretary of the Aramoho branch of the N.Z. Labour Party, is the delegate to the conference to be held in Auckland next week. With her husband she has left for the north and will visit her daughter, Mrs. Murphy, Papatoetoe. Among visitors to Wanganui for the Old Girls’ Ball are Mrs. S. W. Hc/.eybun, Otorohanga, Misses L. Gonville National Party Card Evening. At the card evening held by the Gonville branch of the National Party the winners were Mrs. Rt Hewitson and Mrs. Westaway. The competition was won by Mr. J. McLeay.
Pre-Wedding Parties.> Miss Ngaire Morgan, whose wedding takes place today was recently the guest of honour at a kitchen gift afternoon given by Mrs. H. Stewart, Tyrone, Turakina Valley. She was also entertained at an evening hostessed by Miss Ngaire Keesing, st. Hill Street, Wanganui.
Victoria League Social Afternoon. An enjoyable social afternoon was held recently by the Victoria League members in the league rooms. The programme included songs by Mrs. G. W. Perrett and Miss Chesswas. accompanied by Mrs. C. H. Clinkard and recitations by Mrs. G. A. Payne. Miss Kathleen Brown, of Edinburgh, gave a very interesting address. Card Evening.
The card evening held by The Wanganui Women’s Bowling Club this week results in the following being the winners: Mrs Newick, Mrs. Purnell and Mr. Evison at the winning table; Mrs. Skelsey won the points prize; Mrs. Easton, consolation; Mrs Speights won .the mystery and the floater was won by Mr. Benson, Mrs. Ambler and Mrs. Fowlett.
