WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Brunswick

The Brunswick W.I. held a very pleasant “Members’ Day” meeting on Saturday. Miss Ross, the president, extended a warm welcome to all present. She later read a comprehensive report of the annual council meeting. It was decided to try holding meetings in the evening of the third Thursday in the month. The “Golden Thread” was given by Mrs. Hiles-Smith. Miss Ross then handed the meeting over to Mrs. Chesswas, who very ably took the chair for 'the members’ part of the meeting, and Mrs. Anderson, who acted as secretary.

Mrs. Chesswas introduced Mrs. McClay, whose interesting talk on “Homes in Australia” was much appreciated.. An interesting display of holiday photographs were on view. The best flower placings were: Mrs. Hiles-Smith 1, Miss A. Smith 2, Mrs. Littlejohn 3. The needlework was won by Miss M. Smith. A delightful afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. C. Goldstone. Mrs. Anderson gave the vote of thanks.

Mosston

The monthly meeting of the Mosston Women’s Institute was held on April 27, there being a fair attendance. Mrs. Sy man presided and welcomed all present. After the usual business, Mrs. Gallen read a report of the council meeting. Gifts from the birthday box were received by Mrs. Cann and Simmonds. Mrs McFarland read the Motto. A very delightful bracket of songs were rendered by Mrs. Bellringer. Mrs. Simmons gave an interesting demonstration of Norfolk Pine work.

TThe mystery parcel was won by Mrs Jones. Winners of competitions: Cheese straws, Mesdames Syunan 1, Gallen 2, McFarland 3. Vase of flowers, Mesdames Park 1, Lind 2, Hammond 3. Best flower, Mesdames Hammond 1, Heir 2, Park 3. Tea cosy, Mesdames Waugh 1, Tipper 2, Syman 3. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting closed with the National Anthem.
