FIVE BULLOCKS MISSING AFTER JUMPING INTO RIVER BED AT BULLS
Five heavy bullocks belonging to Mr. E. H. Duncan, Otaire Station, ' Hunterville, are missing. The five bullocks were part of a herd of 200, which was being driven to property at Rongotea. Last Sunday the cattle were put in an accommodation paddock at Bulls to give them a rest before an early start on Monday morning . A start was made in darkness on Monday to get the cattle across the Bulls bridge before much traffic was on the road. When the herd was near the approaches of the bridge a car came travelling across the bridge at a high speed and with its headlights on. Frightened by the car, 22 buiiocKs broke away and jumped down into the river bed. There are no wings on the approaches to the bridge and the cattle had no difficulty in jumping off. A search for the missing cattle was carried out during this week and by yesterday 17 had been recovered Heavy bullocks are worth about £25 each.
