INCREASE IN BUILDING PERMITS. According to information released by the town clerk, Mr. T. Thompson, a substantial increase in building permits was issued by the Hunterville Town Board for the 1949-50 financial year. Permits to the value of £18,550 were issued as against £l5O the previ ous year. Drivers licences issued by the Hunterville Town Board during the year ended March 31, 1950, were 154, compared with 119 the previous year. JUNIOR NATIONAL PARTY. There was a fair attendance of members at the first annual meeting of the Hunterville Junior Branch of the National Party, Mr. Maurice Henwood presiding. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr. J. L. Lambert; chairman, Mr. M. Henwood; secretary, Mr. A. Mowbray; treasurer, Mr. A. Ross; committee, Miss H. Lambert, Miss Janet Lambert, Messrs. John Lilburn, P. Klue, G. Meads; auditor, Mr. D. Hatrick. MILITARY TRAINING. The only Hunterville youths to enter Linton military Camp on May 9 under the compulsory military training scheme are D. J. Moir and B. S. J. Wilson. PLUNKET SOCIETY. ‘lt would seem that 100 per cent, of your babies this year came under supervision which is a definite improvement on other years,” stated the Plunket Nurse, Miss I. G. Suddaby, in her report read at the annual meeting of the Hunterville sub-branch of the Plunket Society. However, stated the report, the figures were not so good when it came to the incidence of breast feeding. By comparison Rata had 77.7 per cent., Turakina 72.7, Marton 69.1, Bulls 57.8 and Hunterville 50 per cent.
The appointment system had reduced the number of babies attending the rooms appreciably which had meant that a more friendly interest was able to be taken In each individual case and longer time allocated to the mothers.
“With 34 birth notifications for the year, I was asked to help in only seven cases. Emphasis could be placed on this point yet again, and more strongly, that young wives be told that they will be welcomed at the rooms and those mothers who aiA? having their second or third baby can bring forward any problems or questions for discussions,” stated the report. With regard to diphtheria immunisation, out of 33 new babies, in 1948, only 12 had bten Immunised by their first birthday, concluded ‘Miss. Suadaby’s report.
