SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. Gladys Lovegrove, St. John's Hill, left yesterday for Rotorua, to adjudicate at the elocutionary sections of the Rotorua Society's competitions. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Cording, of Christchurch, and formerly of Wanganui, who have been revisiting the city as the guests of Mrs. W. L. Burgess, Liverpool Street, have returned to the South Island. Mr. and Mrs. F. Stapleton, Anzac Parade, are spending a few days in Auckland to attend the college capping ceremony for 1950. Mr. Derek Stapleton is among this year's graduants, as Bachelor of Architecture.' A quiet wedding which took place in Bv.rton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, on Easter Saturday was that of Miss Florence V. Sim, former Y.W.C.A. secretary in Wanganui, who was married to Mr. Harold Webb, of Fort Pirie, South Australia. Mrs. Webb, who left Wanganui about 12 months ago, has, in the meantime, resumed her position as a member of the Manchester Y.W.C.A. staff, until final plans are made for travelling to Aust i alia with her husband. M;L-s N. Caughley, M.A., (N-Z.), L.C.S. (Lond.), R.M.A. (Eng.), who w' 1 attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Speech Therapists' Association in Wanganui next week, will address the Rotary Club on Monday. Mrs Davina Gill, 8.A., Dip. Ed., who is senior vice-president of the association, will address the publicspeaking group of the Junior Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. Mrs. Davina Gill, 8.A., Dip. Ed., of Christchurch, who is senior vice-presi-dent of the New Zealand Speech Therapists’ Association, will visit Wanganui next week for the annual confer ence and refresher course of the association. Other visitors will be Mrs J. Gordon, of the Thorndon Speech Clinic, Wellington; Miss N. Caughley, lecturer in English and speech therapy at the Christchurch Training College; Miss B. Makgill, of Auckland; Miss G. M. Gane, senior therapist at the Christchurch Normal School; and Miss C. Davies, of New Plymouth. On Furlough From Egypt. After spending five years with the Egypt General Mission, two New Zealanders have returned to the Dominion on furlough. They are Miss Elsie Chaplow, a nursing sister, who trained at the Wellington Hospital and Miss Althea Johnston, a former fashion artist in Auckland. Miss Chaplow was a nursing sister at the mission hospital at Shebin El Kanater, 20 miles north of Cairo. Miss Johnston taught iya girls’ school in Ismalia and recently at a girls’ club in Alexandria. Farewell Parties. Mrs. H. L. Williams, who leaves this month to reside in Hamilton, has been entertained at several farewell parties. Yesterday Mrs. P. B. Anderson and Mrs. C. A. Piper were joint hostesses at an afternoon tea when about 20 friends assembled at the termer's home in Carlton Avenue. The guest of honour was presented with a book by Mrs. Anderson on behalf of those present. On Wednesday an afternon tea party was given at the D.I.C. by Mrs. V. W. Venimore, who presented a spray to Mrs. Williams and expressed;<on behalf of all pr.esent good wishes for the future. Wedding Visitors.
