AIR BRIGADE BEING FORMED TO FIGHT FOR CHINA

Admissions By St. Louis Man Of The Force's Establishment

NEW YORK, May 4 (Recd. 6pm>.— The Chinese Communist radio said today that an international air brigade was being organised under American leadership to fight for Chinese Nationalists against the Communist regime.

Mr. Nial Castle, a former United States air force officer, confirmed in St. Louis, Missouri, that the nucleus of such a brigade had been formed under his leadership. A Chinese Communist broadcast from Peiping accused the United States Government of complicity in the plan, and said the brigade ‘ was being formed with the close collaboration of “other imperialist countries."

It added that the brigade would be made up of American, British and Canadian "desperadoes" with wartime American air force fliers in the majority. The broadcast said an organisational meeting was held in St. Louis on April 29, under Mr. Castle's leadership. Mr. Castle, when questioned about the Chinese Communists' claims, said the group which he headed made no claim to official United States backing. He admitted the brigade's purpose was to fight for the Nationalists. It had the promise of unlimited financing from outside the United States.
