Mr. Kincaid moved thb following remit to the annual conference of delegates (Waimarino electorate), to be held at Raetihi today (Saturday): “That it be a recommendation to the conference that the Wages Protection and Contractors’ Liens Act, 1939, 'be amended to make part II of the Act binding upon the Crown." Speaking to the remit, Mr. Kincaid said that local bodies and others letting contracts were required to hold back 25 per cent, of the contract price for one month for purposes of protection, particularly in regard to subcontractors and persons working for wages. The Act was binding on all but the Crown. Recently, a case occurred in the Waimarino electorate where a builder who was building State houses went bankrupt and the people working for him got nothing because the Act was not binding on the Crown. The sub-contractors were not paid. It was with the purpose of avoiding the possibility of a repetition of this sort of thing that he was moving the remit. The motion was seconded by Mr. J. Webb and carried, and will go before the annual conference today at Raetihl. BOWLING SEASON CLOSES TOMORROW. The bowling season .will close tomorrow (Sunday).
