VIGILANTIA SELECTED FOR TEAROHA HANDICAP

AUCKLAND, Last Night (Special). —Provincial race meetings have provided a wealth of information which may prove valuable for the Te Aroha Racing Club’s meeting tomorrow, but whether backers will be able to sift the grain from the chaff remains to be proved. They failed at Tauranga last Saturday, but the optimists will probably be hoping for better luck at Te Aroha.

Fine fields are engaged, with balloting out Invoked for three events and divisions provided in the Springdale Handicap. The track is an ideal one and the prospects are for keen racing. The main event, the Te Aroha Handicap, has drawn an even field, with Vigilantia still a hard horse to beat if he proves up to weight. Sir Vite, third on the final day at Ellerslie, is returning to form, and Barfleur was also placed at headquarters. Frontier Mac is to make a welcome reappearance, and Contango may reveal improvement on the longer trip. The Gent is in winning vein and Gwen Vaals, Earldale, Maricrana and Happy Issue are also good prospects. The imported horse Duccio heads the sprint field, the second leg of the double. He had two sprints between races at Tauranga and moved well. Chatrill is due for another win. Chatscourt, Lord Foxbridge, Level Best, Fleet Fox, Bedivere, Akbar and Master Orelio are some of those likely to worry Chatrill.
