immi GORDON McAVSLAN is a New Zealander who has worked and studied in such widely separated places as Australia , Britain, France, Italy, Switzerland and New Guinea. During the war he saw service in an Australian Infantry Battalion, and in 1946-47 he gave nine one-man exhibitions of his work throughout New Zealand, including Wanganui. Much of his art is such a break from the representational tradition that it may shock the average New Zealander. At 36 Gordon McAvslan is bn intensive and extremely sensitive worker whose pictures are the expression of his experience of life. His work is evocative . . . that is to say, it is consciously aimed at Creative feeling in the spectator. The Auckland critic, A. R. D.
