Bridge Closed The Rangitikei County Council advises that the bridge on the Leedstown R4ad, over the Maungaraupl Stream, is closed to heavy traffic until further notice. A ford for heavy traffic is available below the bridge.

Horticulture Visit About 100 members of the South Taranaki Institute of Horticulture will visit Wanganui today to inspect Mr A. E. Miller's chrysanthemum garden at Bastia Hill. The visitors will lunch at Upokongaro and later In the afternoon will visit the Putiki Maori Church.

Exhibition of Watercolours On view at the Sarjeant Gallery until May 5 is an attractive collection of 61 watercolours, the work of the late Admiral R. A. Oliver, R.N. The collection has been loaned to NewZealand galleries for exhibition through the National Art Gallery. The pictures were painted between 1847 and 1850, when Admiral Oliver (then captain) commanded H.M.S. Fly in New Zealand waters.

Average Killing Weights Average killing weights of lamb for export during the period October 1, 1949, to April 1, 1950, showed a decrease, states the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. For the North Island the average weight was 34.391 b as compared with 35.381 b for the corresponding period of last season. South Island weights for lambs showed a slight increase, being 35.721 b as against 36.571 b. The New Zealand average for this season was 34.971 b as compared with 35.511 b for the same period last season.

Dollars For Machinery. Federated Farmers had more than 15,000 dollars’ worth of equipment waiting to be imported for New Zealand farmers when dollars were available said Mr. Buckleton, chairman of (he Action Committee of Federated Farmers in an address to Wanganui farmers yesterday. This included 1500 crawler tractors, 650 pick-up balers, 100 side rakes and tedders and 250 harvesters and at present a case was being made for dollars for the second licencing period. Fortunately the Action Committee had now secured the confidence of most of the Government officers.
