SEARCH PROPOSED FOR ANCIENT STONE OF JUSTICE

LONDON, March 20.—Mr. Tom Driberg, M.P., is to raise a question in the House of Commons about the possibility of searching for the ancient Stone of Justice used by the Kings of England up to the time of Henry VII, and which is believed to be buried in Westminster Hall. Mr. Driberg will ask that excavations be made before the restoration of Westminster Hall makes these impracticable. The stone is said to be a marble slab about 12 feetjong and 3 feet wide. It was used as a seat by early English Sovereigns when they were acclaimed at their coronations. It is believed to have been buried in Westminster Hall when it was decided to erect a seat which would raise the Sovereign above his subjects. “If it could be found it would be at least as historical and important as the Stone of Scone under the Coronation Chair in Westminster Abbey,” said Mr. Driberg.—N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent.
