MR. ARTHUR PORRITT TO READ MEMORIAL ORATION TO THE B.M.A.

WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA)—• The first memorial oration honouring New Zealand doctors who died in two world wars will be a feature of the British Medical Association’s biennial Dominion conference, which begins at Wellington on February 14. .

It will be delivered by Mr Arthur Porritt, C>B.E., one of New Zealand’s most famous surgeons, who is visiting the Dominion from England. The idea of the oration at each future conference was proposed last year, when a national memorial plaque to doctors was unveiled in Wellington. Mr Porritt’s oration will be given at the National Art Gallery on the night of February 15. The conference will be opened by lhe Primo Minister. Mr Holland, and the first clay’s programme will include an address on medical standards by Professor R. S. Aitken, Otago University, and an inaugural address by the B.M.A. president-elect Mr E. H. M. Luke, C.M.G., Wellington, who will be inducted by the present office holder, Mr D S. Wylie, C.M.G., C.8.E., Tauranga

On the morning and afternoon of February 15 the conference will hear papers on clinical subjects Further papers will be read on the morning of February 16, and the rest of the day will be given to social and sporting activities. The conference will end on February 17 with a discussion of papers.

Between 150 and 200 doctors from outside Wellington are expected to attend the conference, in addition to about 180 local medical men.
