45 Dutch Immigrants, Mostly Farmers, Arrive In Auckland By Air
AUCKLAND, Yesterday (PA).— Among 45 Dutch immigrants who arrived by flying-boat from Sydney today were Mr. A. Hoebergen, his wife and eight of their nine children. The ninth Hoebergen came a year ago and through his efforts the family was able to go straight to a sharemilking job near Hamilton. Though the immigrants are mostly farmers, the party included a bulbgrower, a florist, a cheesemaker, a plumber and a carpenter. Today’s arrivals heard of the Dominion from New Zealanders on leave in Holland during the war and from evacuees from Indonesia. “In Holland, too much people,” a young immigrant, explained. The party was met by the Dutch Minister in New Zealand, Mr. J. B. D. Pennink, and the agricultural attache, Mr. H. de Bruin. Employment has been arranged by the Department of Labour and Federated Farmers.
