MAIN RANDWICK RACE WON BY NIZAMI COLT
SYDNEY, Jan. 30 (Recd. 9.49pm). The Australian Day Handicap at Randwick this afternoon was won narrowly by the New Zealand-bred Nizami colt Grey Boots, who produced a powerful finish to nose out Hesdin. Hesdin jumped to the front early and almost ran away with the race. Sheba was boxed in and broke clear too late. In the Kirkham Stakes, for two-year-olds, the Helios filly Charlotte just beat the Nizami filly Niaranga after a neck-and-neck battle down the straight. Results:— Kirkham Stakes. Charlotte 8.0 (Sellwood) 1, Niaranga 8.0 (Cook) 2, Lady Rosetta 8.0 (Hughes) 3. Five started. Head; neck. Time, 1.13 L Australia Day Handicap.
