Talented Icelandic Seaman To Settle In N.Z.

AUCKLAND, Yesterday (PA).— A young man who is tired of seeing the world from the sea and wants only peace, quiet and warmth, arrived in Auckland today to settle. He is Einar Kalman. 26, an immigrant from Iceland. Kalman was beaten up and robbed by thugs in Bombay while walking across the street. They slashed him across the face and mouth with a razor and he had to have six stitches inserted. Kalman speaks Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, English and Dutch, as well as his native language. He said Iceland was not as cold as Scotland, but was still too cold.for him. He always wanted to come to New Zealand because it was warm and nice. He ha’! heard men of all nationalities speaking of this country and had never heard them say anything against It.
