Publicity In “Chronicle” Enables English Rower To Greet Relatives In N.Z.

As a result, of publicity appearing in ihe “Chronicle," Mr. A. S. F. Butcher, the bow oarsman in the English eight-oar crew which will compete in the Empire Games rowing regatta at Karapiro next Monday, greeted his second cousins on his arrival recently at Auckland. Mr. Butcher’s grandfather had a brother William who emigrated to New Zealand and raised a family of 12 daughters and one son. One of the daughters married a Mr. Campbell of Wanganui, in 1908. Through the good offices of Mrs. Elizabeth Jepson the “Chronicle" intimation was brought to the notice of a member of the Butcher family now living in Hamilton, resulting in the two branches being reunited. The fourth generation since the migrant left met at Auckland aerodrome last Saturday, when the oarsman stepped down on New Zealand soil.

The originator of the enquiries. Mr. C. S. Butcher, of 69 “The Grove,” West Wickham, Kent, England, has written expressing the thanks of the family for the “Chronicle's*' good offices
