Recipe For Election Victory Wanted
LONDON, Dec 15.—Greatly heartened by the success of the National Party in New Zealand, the British Conservatives are sending for examples of election propaganda. They are especially interested in the appeal that was made to women arid commentators have said that the British Tories could learn much from it. Commenting on the Bradford byelection (a shock to the optimistic Conservatives), a party official said today that the swing in votes was only 6 per cent. "If we can raise that to 7 per cent, in the General Election we will have a majority of between 40 and 60 seats," he said. Following the results of the New Zealand and Australian elections, a London firm of bookmakers has revised its prices on the British General Election. The Labour Party, previously 7-4 on, is now 6-4; the Conservatives, previously 6-4, are now 5-4. Another bookmaker is laying odds of 6-4 against Mr. Churchill, 5-2 against Mr. Attlee, 5-1 against Mr. Eden, and 7-1 against Mr. Bevin being the next Prime Minister.
