Japs Get Back Their Own Exchange Control; Can Resume Private Importing
TOKIO, Dec. 27 (Recd. 6 pm). —General MacArthur tocUy announced the resumption of private imports to Japan would be permitted after January 1, 1950, 2nd the immediate handing over of exchange control to the Japanese Government. The Bank of Japan, acting as agent for Japanese foreign exchange control, will tako over 67,000,000 dollars in dollars and sterling. The transfer will facilitate a resumption of private importing. United States officials state it is a final step in returning Japanese trade to normal channels.
