BOMB EXPLODES AT GRAVESIDE; KILLS THREE

SINGAPORE, Dec. 27 (Recd. 12.40 a.m.)—Two men and a boy of 10 (all Chinese) were killed and 20 others injured today when a booby trap exploded at a graveside during a funeral service in Ipoh cemetery, in Perak. The outrage occurred at the funeral of Madame Au See, mother of Cheong Chee, president of the Perak Chinese Mining Association, and leading member of the Perak Chinese community. Several Perak Chinese leaders were among the wounded.

A primed hand-grenade had been buried in the ground with a catch hook protruding two yards from the edge of the grave at a spot where mourners normally take up their positions. The body had just been lowered into the grave and the coffin was being adjusted when the explosion rent the air and the hushed cemetery was transformed into something like a battlefield.—Reuter.
