Empire Games Staff Will Have Busy Time Over The Holidays
AUCKLAND, Yesterday (PA).— Among nie busiest people in Auckland over the Christmas holidays will be the staff of the Empire Games organising secretary, Mr. C. L. Cleal. With the first overseas athletes —the Canadians—due here on January 10 the organising activity is reaching a high pitch. Many hours of overtime were worked to dispatch preferential booking tickets, and night sessions will continue.
Mr. Cleal opened his office in February, and the staff has since grown to five. The latest office equipment addition is a 40-line telephone exchange. A similar exchange will be installed at the Empire Village at Ardmore, and another will be set aside for the exclusive Games business at the Chief Post Office.
A Vancouver message says that the first group of Canada’s athletes to the Games sailed in the Aorangi today. Thirty-six athletes and officials were aboard. A second party of 24 athletes will leave by air on January 17.
