WATERSIDE PRESIDENT TO HAVE FULL-TIME JOB AT SALARY OF £750

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— The national president of the New Zealand and Auckland Waterside Workers’ Union since 1944, Mr. H. Barnes, will, it is reported, become full-time president at a remuneration of £750 a year, plus expenses. This decision is understood to have been made at the biennial conference of the union last week in Wellington. No statement has been made by the

union. Mr. Barnes was recently returned unopposed as national president for two more years, when two other nominees unexpectedly withdrew. The appointment, of a full-time president, apparently indicates that the union anticipates a heavier demand in future

on the time of the occupant, of that office. It is reported that the change will take effect from the end of March.
