DUNEDIN, Last Night (PA).—The •eond day of the double wool sale in incdin today saw prices about level ith those on the first day last Monty. The sale was again buoyant and tding was particularly keen throughut the day. Competition was very ight for classes that secured high ■.ces on the first day. Bidding was .11 distributed. The Continent and adlord were the largest buyer©, iu’e French and German buyers i/ain led the strongest competition jr bellies and pieces. Good values >ecured on Monday were eclipsed today by offerings from Central Otago, ■n almost every other respect, the sale was practically a continuation of .Monday s auction. fop price for the day was SOild, secured by Mr. Robert Jopp, of Chatto Creek, for four bales of super Merino. Tffis exceeded the top price for Monday, which was 72Ad, gained by the Malvern Downs Estate, Tarras, for Merino. Mr. Jopp also received 75id today for four bales of Merino hogget. Another lot today of five bales of super Merino, grown by Mr. G. J. Paterson, of Gimmerburn, realised 75=d. In quarterbred wool, the top price went to Mr. James McArthur, of Clyde, who sold five bales of super quart erbred at 681 d. Mr. McArthur also securea 6614 for five bales of superfine halfbred. Messrs E. W. Sutton and Son, Moa Flat Falls, obtained 68d for three bales of super halfbred hogget and Mr C. Small, Aroha, Moa Flat, secured the good value of 67d for three bales of superfine Corriedale. These wore the leading prices for the day. “Following the high levels reached on Monday prices were maintained throughout the second day of the first main sale of the season in Dunedin, with the result that the return from this double sale must rank as a record for New Zealand,” states the official report. The offering was 26,634 bales, and a complete clearance was made. The report continued: “There was a full bench of buyers and again a very large attendance of the public One of the main factors responsible for the high general average was the quality of the clip as a whole. As was the case on Monday, the keenest interest was shown in crossbreds. The record price for the season was that of 803 d for extra Merino, while the price of 58d for Southdown was another record. Buying was well spread, with all sections operating freely,” the report concluded. The following is the official range of prices:—
