WORLD GOVERNMENT ONLY ALTERNATIVE TO FUTURE WARS
WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 (Recd. (5 Em). —Dr. Harold Urey, who helped develop the atomic bomb, declared tonight that world government was the only alternative to future wars. He was addressing the Atlantic Union Committee whereof he is a director. Dr. Urey recommended limited political union between Atlantic Pact nations as a first step toward universal government. However, that objective could not be realised until "democratic institutions are established in countries wher e tyranny exists.” Earlier he said: "If war breaks out it will last ten years.”
The western world must set up an overwhelming balance of power to deter any possible Russian attack, added Dr. Urey.
