“SCOTT OF ANTARCTIC” MOST POPULAR FILM IN BRITAIN THIS YEAR
LONDON, Dec. 15 (Recd. 6 pm).— •‘Scott of the Antarctic ” a British film without a love interest, was the most popular picture of 1949 in Britain, it is stated. With John Mills as Scott, it has already taken 1250,000 in Britain. Second in popularity was “Johnny Belinda,” with “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” and "The Easter Parade, ’ equal for third place. Eight other popular films, not in ot der of popularity, were: “Paleface,” "Red River,” “The Guinea Pig,” “Trottie True,” "Maytime in Mayfair,” "You Can’t Sleep Here,” "Madness of the Heart,” and “Blue Lagoon. ’ Sufficient time has not yet elapsed to judg e the popularity of “The Third Man,” “The Barkleys of Broadway,” and "The Hasty Heart.” —Special N.Z.P.A.
