N.Z. Competitors In Ballroom Dancing Contest

The New Zealand couple, Miss Shirley Maybury and Mr W. McGavock, of Christchurch, returned on the Monowai on Tuesday after competing in the amateur hallroom dancing championship in Sydney, conducted by the Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing of Australia and New Zealand. The New Zealand pair won the Dominion contest and were sent to Sydney by the association of this country. They conceded that the standard of ballroom dancing was higher in Australia than in New Zealand. Amateurs in the Commonwealth seemed to devote much more time to practice than did amateurs of this country. There were live State finalists and the New Zealand finalists who were placed fourth.
