SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Miss I. Fleming, Purnell Street, has returned alter v.siting the South island. Miss M. E. Baker, principal of the Wanganui Girls’ College has as guests, Miss L. Oldridge, of Christchurcn, who was first assistant at the school until she retired at the end of the first term this year, also Mrs. Craig, (nee Miss Freda Sharp. Mrs. D. A. Morrison, Selwyn Street, will leave Auckland today by air for Sydney to join her husband there ana will accompany him overseas. Mr. Morrison left Wanganui recently for Australia en route tor a business trip to England and America. They expect to be away about four months. Over £5O Raised At Y.M.C.A. Shop Day. At the shop day held yesterday by the Y.W.C.A. in the 2nd. N.Z.E.F. Rooms, the sum of just over £5O was realised as a result of the effort. Those in charge of the stalls were Miss Jebson (flowers), Mrs. R. N. Wilson (produce), Mrs. Hart (jumble), Mesdames A. B. Currin, H. C. Dow and J. A. Scott (second hand clothing) and members of the 20th. entury Club (cakes and prserves). A numoer of helpers assisted the conveners during the day. College Teachers Farewelled. Several members of the teaching staff of the Wangaui Girls’ College who are leaving the school, have been farewelled this week. They are j Madame shearsby, musical directress; Miss Mavis Burton, who will visit her home in Hawke s Bay, before leaving by the* Rangitikei in February for England; Miss D. Missen, who is to be married shortly and will be visiting her home in Taihape; and Miss M. Jennins, who is returning to New Plymouth and is also to be married.

Christmas Party Held by B. and P. Club.

A very happy evening was spent in the Y.W.C.A. Lounge on Monday last, when the Business and Professional Women’s Club held its annual Christmas Party. The lounge looked very gay with its festive decorations and in addition to games and competitions, there were vocal items by Miss Ivy Kendrick and carol singing. A stall of Christmas novelties in aid of Club funds was in the capable hands of Misses D. Phillpotts and E. Feist, while a “mystery” parcel and collection box realised a substantial donation for the ”Rewi Alley ’ Appeal. A delicious supper concuded the proceedings.

Porirua Appeal. The Mayoress acknowledges with thanks further donations to the appeal, which closes next week. L. and E. Taylor 17s 6d, anonymous ss, Mrs. O. 10s, Mrs. Connor 10s, Mrs. Gillard £l, Mrs. Cooper ss, Lades’ Rest 3s 2d. Mrs. Rogers stated that a large consignment of books (many very good ones) and magazines that had been kindly donated, were packed on Thursday and sent forward for despatch to Porirua. The consignment consisted of 10 cartons and one case. Mrs Rogers wishes to thank all who have assisted wih donations and specially thanks Mrs B. Bates and Mrs F. H. Thomson of the Ladies’ Rest for their help.

Fordell-Mangamahu W.D.F.F. At a meeting of the Fordell-Manga-mahu W.D.F.F. held recently, it was announced that the baby chosen by the branch as their candidate in the “Baby Carnival” is David Archer, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Archer, of Mangamahu. The carnival is being held in aid of building funds for the Town and Country Residential Nursery, and will last until the end of March, when a garden party will be held to finalise matters. Mrs. A. H. Collins, of “Letham” has kindly offered her charming garden for the purpose. The result of the “Doll” competition will be announced on December 16.
