Labour Move Over Election Expenses In Great Britain
LONDON, Dec 6.—British firms CETmpaigning against threatened nationalisation will not get tax relief on the cost of their propaganda campaigns. They will be unable to put the cost down as business expense, which is not liable to tax. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps, made this clear in answer to a question in the House of Common? today.
This is the latest move in the “war” between the Government and the Opposiiton over election expenses, which are limited by law. The Government contends that propaganda against nationalisation by industries should form part of the Conservative Party’s election .expenses. The Opposition maintains that threatened industries have full liberty to defend themselves.
