CANDIDATES THANK THE ELECTORS
Mr. O’Keeffe: “I Will Try Again In 3 Years” “Over the past 14 years that I have represented the people of Wanganui I have always tried to serve the needs of the community, irrespective of their political views,” said Mr J. B. Cotterill last night in returning thanks from station 2XA Wanganui. “In the next three years it will be as in the past my duty to serve the needs of my constituents to the best of my ability, what ever their political views,” he added. Mr Cotterill assured his constituents that whatever problems confronted them during his next term in Parliament, he would be there to assist them in their solution. He thanked all those who had voted for him that day. He was deeply appreciative of their continued confidence over the years. Mr Cotterill acknowledged the zealous work of his committees and paid special tribute to the work of the ladies’ committee. The contest had been cleanly fought, he added. MR O’KEEFFE’S THANKS Mr E. V. O’Keeffe thanked the Wanganui electors who had voted for him in yesterday’s campaign. While the National Party had been denied victory locally yesterday, he believed that there was another day aliead when ultimate victory for the National Party would be achieved in Wanganui. He thanked his committees for the support given him throughout the contest and said he was deeply grateful to them all. He had enjoyed the campaign from beginning to end, and congratulated Mr Cotterill on his success and for a clean contest. He would come again in three years’ time.
