Barney Clarke Retires From Boxing
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— Barney Clarke, former New Zealand amateur and professional light-heavy-weight boxing champion, today announced his retirement from boxing. “I have had good innings and will decided this is the lime 1o get out,” he said. Clarke, now aged 22, starlet; boxing in 1946. He turned professional late last, year and after winning his first cash fight here had a draw and a win in Sydney. This year ho won the New Zealand national professional title from Tommy Downes and later lost it to Roy Stevens.
